Observability dashboards: move from signals to decisions

Explore how telemetry and operational interfaces can help teams investigate system behavior and decide what to do next.

Understand behavior, not just a status light

IBM presents observability as understanding a system's internal state through its outputs. Logs, metrics, and traces can provide complementary evidence. A dashboard is a way to make that evidence useful to a particular operator, rather than a replacement for the underlying instrumentation.

Design around the decision

WebLab Corp's implementation perspective starts with the questions a team asks during an incident or a routine review. Which workflow is affected? What changed? Who owns the next action? Arrange the interface around those decisions instead of displaying every available chart.

Make the next action visible

Agree on a small initial view, connect each signal to its context, and document the escalation path. Review the interface with the people who will use it under pressure. Add detail when it supports an actual investigation.
